I am currently working on:

  • Ways to improve the efficiency and speed of artificial evolution.  My supervisor Inman Harvey and I have recently submitted two papers to the Alife XII conference for review (available on the Publications page).  One paper compares different methods of incrementally evolving neural networks, while the second paper introduces the Binomic Genetic Algorithm (GA) which is a GA based on the principles of Metagenomics.
  • Neutral (as opposed to neural) networks – what role do they have in evolution (both natural and artificial)

Other research interests that I am not actively working on, include:

  • How thermodynamics can be applied to Artificial life – specifically the Maximum Entropy Production Principle (MEPP)
  • The enactive/embodied approach to (Artificial) Intelligence (AI)
  • Creating quant trading systems using GAs and AI
